One year ago on October 12, 2019 I launched my blog. It was a small, simple, rustic themed gathering with a few friends and family.
But wait…I’m getting ahead of myself, let me take you back. Way back, years before 2019. I had an idea after idea after idea. Friends were constantly encouraging g me to start a business or something because they could see creative gifts and talents within me. Knowing my strengths and the way my life is set up I finally settled on a blog. I did a poll on social media and asked people if they would read it and many said yes. From there I started brainstorming, look, type, and purpose. It was important for me to have a goal, to bring meaningfulness to all the things I do.

It’s crazy “My Little Blog that Could” that I named “Raise Your Light” A lifestyle blog that encourages, empowers, and educates people to be the best versions of themselves. Personally, I believe this happens when you let your light shine. Letting your most authentic and true self radiate through and touch others.
Let me start off by saying a few things def went wrong. A mosquito bit me on my face a few days before and it was huge. I was high key stressing that it would not go down in time for the event. When I checked out the venue it was evening. I automatically assumed all would be well for the event and a projector would be useful to show the website. We all know what happens when you assume. My event was during the day. The brightest part of the day. Even with the lights off, it was so bright. The projector was useless. People had to use their phones. Lastly, the event was catered at the location and everything was NOT ready. I was so confused. Y’all make the stuff here! Why isn’t it ready?!

Despite all the things that went wrong, it was still a decent event. I had a really good time. The real MVPs are my friends and fam. They really showed up for me as they ALWAYS do. I can’t even imagine life without them. My tribe, my village, my encouragers, my…. What can I say about them and their support? Would it even be an accurate depiction? Prob not, but all in all, I’m grateful.
And when it was all over and clean up was done, I just wanted to dance and sing to the newest member of our family, my niece. She was asleep for most of the event, but she came out to support me and I was happy to have her.
There is often talk about support and what it looks like. The same people who encouraged me to start the blog aren’t subscribed or don’t even read it. They don’t follow the blog on social media either for the most part. Let me take it a step further, they prob couldn’t tell you the name of my blog or what it’s about. Does that mean they don’t support me? Of course not! They listened and continue to listen to my ideas, helped me launch, and buy items from my affiliates so I can get a commission. I say all of this to say…be easy with friends and fam and your expectations. Support can look very different to different people. Have an open mind and an open hand. Take the good and leave the bad.
Becoming a blogger has challenged me in so many ways. I’m actually high key surprised and proud of myself. It wasn’t the most difficult thing BUT it’s def not easy. Allow me to encourage you. If you have an idea or something you want to start…be like Nike. Just do it!

Let Your Light Shine!

Let the light shine! Rachelle
