The Van Gogh Expo was EVERYTHING! I have to admit that my only knowledge of Van Gogh was limited to the artist who cut off his ear. There is so much more to his story. More sadness, if you will. His life wasn’t one I would wish on anyone. His art though, has and continues to be a source of joy, peace, and love for many.

First I want to talk about the VR experience. It was nothing short of amazing. A journey from beginning to end of some of the most beautiful Van Gogh art up close and personal. You could reach out and touch it, but not really because it’s virtual. I’ve done VR experiences before but this was very Very VERY different. It was only $5.00 and honestly worth every penny.
Next up, was the immersion experience. As soon as you step into the room you are immediately transported to an oasis of art, lights, and imagery. It was breathtaking. I was amazed….talk about awe and wonder. There were a few options to take it all in. You could sit down, lay down, use a pillow, etc. It was a vivid show through the works of Van Gogh. It lasted about 30-40 minutes and I loved every bit of it. As I was there, laying, I felt such a sense of amazement.
If you know me, I mean really Really REALLY know me, you will know that I love yellow flowers. Imagine my surprise and joy when I came across a painting of yellow flowers, then another one, and then another one. It was like DJ Khaled was right there encouraging me to keep going. Van Gogh’s sunflower series includes paintings with all manner of variations of yellow. Naturally, this was my favorite part of the experience. All the beautiful hues of yellow had me lost and in love.

Now, Sunshine, I will be the first to tell you that I am not the most artistic. However, I could not tell you the last time I colored anything for fun. There is a section in the experience that allows you to pick a Van Gogh Print and color it to be posted for all to see. There were only about 6 crayons to use. I did the best I could. I think it came out ok.
If you can’t make it to the Van Gogh Expo, don’t worry. There’s an online experience HERE where you get a totally different immersion into the art that is very unique. Whatever you decide, I support your decision. Just be sure to….
